Reporting Services 2008 Configuration Invalid Namespace

August 26, 2008 05:18 by Justin King

I installed Reporitng Services 2008 along side 2005 Reporting Services on my Vista machine and when I tried to connect to the configuration tool I was prompted with this error.

"No report servers were found. Details: Invalid namespace"

This was strange as I had successfully installed on Vista stand alone and on XP along side Reporting services 2005 without a hitch.

I put the brain into gear and it told me "Use the google" to which the reply was as follows.

1.    Open Explorer
2.    Navigate to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.SQL2008\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin *Copy URL into clipboard
3.    Copy reportingservices.mof to reportingservicesalt.mof
4.    Open this file in Notepad
5.    Edit > Replace then enter RS_SQL2008 in Find What *** This is RS_ + the instance name of SQL2008 (you selected during install) - See below for screeshot

6.   Enter SQL2008 in Replace With box (i.e remove RS_)
7.   Select Replace All
8.   Save and Close Notepad
9.   Open Start > Run > cmd
10. Type CD at command prompt then select Edit > Paste from main window to paste in clipboard path

11. Once in this folder (same as the .mof file) run this command MOFCOMP reportingservicesalt.mof

12. Now Open 2008 Config tool again

13. All good. Click Connect
14. Let’s find out the URL for Report Manager
