Jeff Atwood from Coding Horror fame has just donated $5000 US to an open source project called Screw Turn Wiki.
What's impressive about this is that Jeff has left his employer Vertigo Software since making this promise and still came good even though he is now funding his new *secret* adventures (well we know it's called stackoverflow.com but that's about it)
Jeff made good on a promise to donate part of his ad revenue from his blog to an open source project that met the following criteria:
- The project must use an open source license.
- The project must use a commonly available method of public source control.
- The project must provide public evidence that it accepts and encourages code contributions from the outside world.
I've been looking for a wiki for part of my new site and both Screw Turn Wiki and FlexWiki look to have the goods. Screw Turn might get my vote over the line as I see this as a pretty big endoursement from a highly respected community member as everyone I've asked ranks Coding Horror in their top 5 blogs.
Well done Jeff!
