Intelppm.sys blue screen on Virtual PC/Server

November 22, 2007 23:22 by Justin King

I was having some problems with a new VPC server I created with Windows 2003.

It worked fine on my local machine whilst I was building the VPC, but when I copied it to the server I kept getting random blue screens whilst working on it with the driver error referring to Intelppm.sys as the culprit.

This is apparantly a processor issue and happened due to the server using a different chipset to my notebook.

This post helped me resolve the issue by doing the following:

Run regedit and change the following keys

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Processor

Or in my case it was the following entry

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Intelppm

And then change the 'Start' value to '4'
